Jefferson High School Science Department

Pond Project

BACK TO SCIENCE MAIN PAGE

On Tuesday, May 1, 2001 over 150 environmental science students worked together to build a 22 by 15 foot garden pond.  The students started the day by digging the hole for the pond.  Throughout the day, the students set the pond liner, placed the rocks in the pond and prepared the pond for water.  Kevin Bailey, owner of Prairie Creek Nursery, and his crew worked with the students all day to complete the pond project.  Kevin Bailey donated the materials for the pond.

The pond will be utilized as an outdoor classroom.  It will serve a variety of purposes from water studies and microorganism analysis in science, to plant drawings in art classes.  Bird feeders and butterfly houses will also be added to the outdoor classroom.  The outdoor classroom will provide the students with a firsthand opportunity to study nature.  All students at Jefferson will hopefully use the pond in their classes.

         Way to go JHawks!!!
